The Peruvian community will protest by blocking a major mining road used by MMG’s Las Bambas copper mine after negotiations with the Andean national government failed,a 1,community leader said Monday.Cotabambas Defense Front Chairman Victor Limaypuma said the blockade will proceed indefinitely and affect all vehicles passing through the road.Peru is the world’s second-largest copper producer,and Las Bambas is the country’s fourth-largest copper mine.
2,Russian mining giant Norilsk Nickel(Nornickel)-Get Report reports third-quarter production reports.Nornickel copper production rose 42%to 116,000 tons in the third quarter of 2021.Before September 2021,copper production fell 20%to 288,000 tons.The reduction for the same reason as nickel was due to Oktyabrsky and Taimyrsky underground mines,in addition,the Norilsk concentrator was temporarily suspended and started maintenance.
Rio Tinto,the world’s largest iron ore producer,announced Wednesday it plans to spend$7.5 billion in the future to reduce carbon emissions by 50%by the end of 2030.That reduction target is three times above than previous targets.To achieve this goal,Rio Tinto will increase renewable energy generation,increase R&D spending on decarbonization routes,and double spending on minerals critical to the energy transition.Rio Tinto announced that it will be back in 2022
